I started in journalism to be a reporter, specifically sports. At my college newspaper, The Shorthorn, I worked in just about every area of newsroom. But, when I started page design I knew I found my place. What drew me to design is combining every aspect of a story: the headline, the photo, the text and making it understandable and engaging for the reader. My design mantra: Keep it simple. Keep it clean.
DFW OT was an iPad sports magazine that married traditional print design with the movement of interactivity and video. I was a co-editor responsible for story idea generation, how we’re going to play the stories (storyforms, video) and art directed the cover and inside pages. It had an engagement rate of 19 minutes with readers.
Worked on the first two seasons of the documentary video series chronicling football in Texas. Built the logo (based off the DFW OT logo I previously created) and designed the site. The The second season, Hail Mary, I was a co-producer and won a Lone Star Emmy.
